New Yorkers have the chance to hear Degout’s North American debut in a song recital that, like those of his great Gallic precursor, the revered Gérard Souzay, mixes French mélodies (Debussy, Ravel, and Duparc) with German Lieder (Robert Schumann, Brahms, and Richard Strauss). Pianist Hélène Lucas accompanies. Hearing a sensitive native French singer take on the exquisite works of Henri Duparc should itself be worth the (modest) price of admission.
