DNA AIR Dance New Amsterdam presents Artists in Residence (AIR). This season’s production includes performances by Neta Pulvermacher/The Neta Dance Company, Sara Baird/Anemone Dance Theater, and Deganit Shemy. Neta Pulvermacher, artistic director of the Neta Dance Company, is noted for her collaborations with outlaw musicians like John Zorn, Miri Ben-Ari, Roy Nathanson, and XTC. Sara Baird/Anemone Dance Theater aligns with the Japanese Butoh aesthetic, a theatrical poetry of opposites, absurdities and unanticipated beauty in stage environments woven out of costuming, visual projections, sculpture and soundscape. Deganit Shemy uses sharp, small, meticulous, even awkward movements to explore the push-pull of alienation and connection. The young Israeli-born choreographer’s fragmented body language digs deep to provoke strong emotional responses.. June 1-3 at 8 p.m. and June 4 at 2 p.m. 280 Broadway, 2nd floor, $17, $12 for members at 212-279-4200 or ticketcentral.com.  For more information, visit dnadance.org.

Upcoming:

MIGUEL GUTIERREZ AND THE POWERFUL PEOPLE Back by popular demand, Miguel Gutierrez and his Powerful People return to Dance Theater Workshop with their critically acclaimed evening. “Retrospective Exhibitionist” and “Difficult Bodies,” an evening of two works presented as a diptych. This evening looks at two sides that are in every performance—what the performer presents and what the performer feels. In “Retrospective Exhibitionist,” a landmark solo for Gutierrez, he shuttles through his own real and imagined performance history, excavating to find the vulnerability of what it is to be watched by others. Using a TV/VCR, boom box, mic and amp, video camera, and other simple props, Gutierrez looks at the merciless unraveling of time and its impact on live performance and the life on the stage. In “Difficult Bodies,” Gutierrez continues his confrontation between performer and viewer, with the three women of MGPP as his foils in a celebration of individuality and the tension of togetherness. Their insistent actions fill the space with the rhythms of attraction and repulsion, as they continually approach and resist the audience. Gutierrez supplies the original music for the work manipulating his own voice live onstage. June 6-10, at 7:30 p.m. 219 W. 19TH St. Tue.-Thu. $20/$12 students and seniors; Fri. & Sat. $25/$15 at 212-924-0077 or dtw.org.
