For the past 20 years, Henrietta Hudson, the famed Hudson Street lesbian bar, has hosted Siren, the women’s party of the year. This year’s bash — voted Best Pride Party by GO Magazine — was special, not just for the 2,000 women who danced the night away or for the event’s partnership with the WorldPride/ Stonewall 50 celebration.
Siren 2019, held at Watermark Bar on Pier 15 downtown on June 29, had a more private, indeed secret cause for celebration.
Snuggled in the rear of the dock at the Watermark were a dozen or so close friends gathered for the private wedding of Henrietta Hudson co-owner Minnie Rivera and her partner of 16 years, Linda Decheser. Officiated by friend and Henrietta Hudson co-owner Lisa Cannistraci, the ceremony was a jubilant and lighthearted occasion as the radiant couple took to the dance floor like they were born to it. The couple told me that “getting married on the anniversary of Stonewall and WorldPride is by far the most joyous and meaningful experience of our lives.”
