In New York on October 15, the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation honored two American companies, Ford Motor Company and Time Inc. for their efforts to combat homophobic stereotyping in national advertising campaigns as well as marketing their products to the LGBT community. A GLAAD press release credited Ford for having created “smart and innovative marketing/advertising campaigns geared toward the LGBT market for their Jaguar and Volvo brands.” Time was credited with “Rosie O’Donnell’s coming out on the cover of ‘People’ to the 1998 ‘Time’ cover story on the murder of Matthew Shepard to ongoing inclusive coverage in titles like ‘Teen People’ and ‘Real Simple.’” Pictured above are Norm Pearlstine, Editor-in-Chief, Time Inc.; Joan Garry, GLAAD Executive Director; and Jan Valientic, Vice President, Global Marketing, Ford Motor Company.
