Dancemakers NYC Dana Hash-Campbell, a former member of the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, in conjunction with Long Island University and the Kumble Theater for the Performing Arts, is producing a showcase of fourteen dance artists in a repertory program spanning two evenings. On Friday see works by Alexandra Beller, Gerald Casel, Aviva Geismar, Hash-Campbell, Ray Tadio, Barbara Mahler, Ashley Searles, and Molly Rabinowitz. Saturday’s program offers dance by Erin Dudley, Daniel Gwirtzman, Amy Larimer, Misty Owens, Anne-Rene Petrarca, Rebecca Stenn, Debra Wanner, Hash-Campbell, and Tadio. LIZ LERMAN DANCE EXCHANGE Liz Lerman founded her group 30 years ago and has been making audiences’ hearts tremor ever since. Her boundary-breaking choreography combines explosive dancing, personality, humor, and sensitivity, lending itself to any style, or any venue. At DNA, Liz Lerman Dance Exchange will perform excerpts of their searing piece “Small Dances About Big Ideas,” commissioned by the Harvard Law School on the anniversary of the Nuremburg trials. A collaborator with her experiences, the world around her, and the dancers beside her, Lerman’s choreography is always fresh, stretching the expressive range of contemporary dance.
