Pence’s Questionable Way of Paying Respects to Slain Jews

Vice President Mike Pence was at a campaign appearance in Michigan after the Pittsburgh massacre of Jewish worshippers. To respond to the atrocity, he let Messianic Jewish Rabbi Loren Jacobs lead a prayer — and since Jacobs is from the right wing, anti-LGBTQ Jews for Jesus movement, he prayed to “my lord and savior Yeshua, Jesus the Messiah.”

Pence, raised a Catholic, is an evangelical Christian and enforcer of fundamentalist orthodoxy in the Trump White House as they pursue an anti-LGBTQ, anti-abortion agenda.

Rabbi Elyse Wechterman, who heads up the Reconstructionist Rabbinical Association and attended one of the Pittburgh shooting victim’s funeral, called Jacobs’ prayer at the campaign rally “a slap in the face,” according to the National Catholic Reporter.
