PHOTO ESSAY BY DONNA ACETO | In its 18th annual Women’s Event, the LGBT Community Center honored recording artist Janelle Monáe, longtime “Late Night with David Letterman” producer Barbara Gaines, and Lisa Davis, Citi’s global head of enterprise services.
The November 7 event at Capitale on the Bowery, which raised money for the Center’s programs for lesbians, bisexual women, and transgender people, also paid tribute to Edie Windsor, the victorious plaintiff in the Supreme Court’s 2013 Defense of Marriage Act ruling, which played a critical role in the string of federal court victories that followed and led to full marriage equality rights nationwide this past summer.
