HENNING RUBSAM: SENSEDANCE Choreographer Henning Rubsam and his company will present three premieres on an evening that highlights a range contemporary dances that employ classical technique and pointe work. Guest artists Melissa Morrissey, Ramon Thielen, and Andrea Long of Dance Theatre of Harlem, and Dartanion Reed, formerly with American Ballet Theatre, and currently artistic director of the Hartford City Ballet join the troupe these performances. THE PARSONS DANCE COMPANY Two diverse, musically driven programs featuring a pair of New York premieres plus a company premiere highlight performances at The Joyce Theater. Premieres include “DMB,” a theatrical, energetic dance to music by the Dave Matthews Band, “Wolfgang,” a tribute to Mozart, plus the company premiere of “Shining Star,” a soulful romp to hits by Earth, Wind & Fire. This two-week program will mark the final Joyce season for longtime company dancer Elizabeth Koeppen. Koeppen has danced with the Parsons Dance Company for 16 years and is currently serving as rehearsal director and associate artistic director for the company. She has staged works by Mr. Parsons on numerous companies including New York City Ballet, American ballet Theatre, Pennsylvania Ballet, Les Ballet Jazz de Montreal, among others. DUMBO DANCE The 2005 d.u.m.b.o. dance festival celebrates its fifth year of showcasing emerging and established choreographers and dance companies. Curated by Young Soon Kim, Artistic Director of White Wave, the festival runs October 13-16 at White Wave’s John Ryan Theater as part of the 9th annual d.u.m.b.o. art under the bridge festival. The d.u.m.b.o. dance festival features more than 90 choreographers presenting a wide array of innovative contemporary dance. LUIS LARA MALVACIAS “Badman,” a multi-disciplinary piece for an all-male cast, posits an environment in which the social codes that regulate definitions of masculinity have disappeared. The work is a product of Malvacías’ continued interest in exploring the interaction among dancers, set installations, and other visual elements.
