Celebrate Friday the 13th with Jon Rosen, illustrator and author of “The Misfits.” Rosen will sign books, answer questions, and auction off original artwork. “The Misfits” is a collection of full-color, captioned illustrations from Rosen with offbeat, hilarious and sometimes touching or twisted characters, but always odd. 7 p.m. at Housing Works Used Book Café.
Saturday February 14
Derrick Jensen, author of the award-winning books “A Language Older Than Words,” “The Culture of Make Believe” and “Listening to the Land,” is an activist fighting to preserve forests, rivers and natural habitats of all kinds. He will be discussing his new book and “How to Take Down Civilization.” 7 p.m. at Bluestocking Bookstore. $6 suggested donation.
Paul Collins of Collins Library, which re-publishes out of print books and forgotten favorites, will host a Valentine’s Day reading celebration for the upcoming re-release of the love story “Lady Into Fox” by David Garnett. Collin will encourage participating authors Tom Bissell, Rachel Cohen, Todd Pruzan, and Dan Kennedy to read from other out-of-print love stories. 8 p.m. at Housing Works Used Books Café.

The book has arrived: “Queer Eye for the Straight Guy: The Fab 5’s Guide to Looking Better, Cooking Better, Dressing Better, Behaving Better, and Living Better.” Ted Allen, Kyan Douglas, Thom Filicia, Carson Kressly and Jai Rodriguez will sign copies of their queer guide to life. 7 p.m. at Barnes and Noble Chelsea.

Samina Ali will read from and sign copies of her new novel, “Madras on Rainy Days,” a story about the relationship of a woman to her family, Indian Muslim domestic life and the secrets behind an arranged marriage. 7:30 p.m. at Barnes and Noble Astor Place.
