GayRidge Pride

Tree of Life with Pride Flag
June 5, noon5 pm.

On Sunday, June 5th, 2022 (rain date June 12th, 2022) at 12:00 PM, Bay Ridge will host its first Pride as GayRidge celebrates the South Brooklyn LGBTQIA+ community in Owl’s Head Park, where those attending can enjoy picnicking overlooking the bay on “Pride Hill.” This area of the park can be reached by entering at 68th Street & Bliss Terrace and is easily accessible by public transportation via the R train to Bay Ridge Ave or the NYC Ferry to Pier 69 – Bay Ridge.

GayRidge was formed in 2019 and has organized an increasing number of LGBTQIA+ events in Bay Ridge over the past two years. Co-admin Mother McKenzie (pronouns: we/our/ours or she/her/hers), said, “In the last year, the GayRidge Facebook group has more than doubled. Given this momentum, we decided as a group that the best way we could connect and support our South Brooklyn LGBTQIA+ community this year was to launch a website (gayridge.org) and host Bay Ridge’s first ever Pride Day.”

GayRidge Pride, which will be for all ages and have no cover charge, will feature live music, drag story-time, games, a queer pet march, art show, crafts, and more. Additional details can be found on their Pride event page. GayRidge is not yet a non-profit but will accept support for the Volunteer & Talent fund on the day of the event via cash and Venmo, and in advance via GoFundMe. All financial support will be distributed equally among talent and volunteers at the end of the event (with NO expenses deducted).

Co-admin Laura Albert (she/her or they) said, “Our member-volunteers are so creative and dedicated. We’re really proud of the Pride day we’ve created and we’re looking forward to welcoming everyone to “Gay Ridge” on the first Sunday in June.” With Pride events taking place throughout the city during the month of June, the local Bay Ridge celebration on June 5th will take place on “Pride Hill” from 12:00 PM to 5:00 PM.

GayRidge is an LGBTQIA+ community group in South Brooklyn. Our mission is to help queer people and allies connect and support one another, while making Bay Ridge a more queer inclusive and welcoming space.
